Soul Calibur

Rumors about the development of the reincarnation of the cult fighting game for the Dreamcast went back to the beginning of last year. The official announcement took place just a couple of months before release. Even after the release of GTA III, not every believe my eyes, one of the key titles for the latest console from Sega has been completely redesigned for the touch screen and released for all modern mobile devices. How good was the port and how adequate price for the proposed content - the issue is not with the most obvious answer.

Ten or so years ago at a local store, I saw video game consoles, as the seller enthusiastically cut some incredibly beautiful fighting game. But instead of the usual melee in the game all fought with swords. The impression of flowing movement, beautiful special effects and incredible graphics were enough to iff needs to shake this prefix with the parents, along with such an amazing toy for a young mind. As you know, we are talking about the Dreamcast and Soul Calibur. Two weeks later the game was passed to the holes. Consoles have long been dead (refused laser), but the impressions are still alive.

To explain the details of the plot series Soul Calibur is almost pointless, because with each new part of the story is distorted beyond recognition. In short, all the fights in the arena are high for the purposes of salvation (or destruction) of mankind, and to seize opportunities thus Sword of Souls - a pointed piece did not understand what the huge size and the living eye in the middle. Namco has promised to recreate the atmosphere of the game in full accordance with the original - and I must say, much of this has succeeded.

Ported in the available four game modes. Arcade - a consistent battle with eight contenders, the reward for victory over the short story that becomes a slideshow, new arenas and characters. Time Attack - the same thing, but without a plot, awards and other main objective - the minimum time of passage. The other two modes is easy to guess. If the first, Survival, an endless stream of battles with random opponents before the first defeat, the second, Extra Survival, more like Russian roulette. Whose first attack reached its goal - the winner. Modes of the network there.

Only in the game are exactly 19 characters and 15 arenas. If the first ten characters in a completely different movement, weapons and attacks, the second dozen for the most part differs only in appearance, voice, and two-three specific methods. It is a standard trick for this genre. Strikes can be easily assembled into a long and very interesting combo, but confident of victory even over the computer opponent will need to learn the basics of the game and deal with the operation.

The left joystick is responsible for the movement of the hero. Given the fact that the fights are held in the arena of volume, we can move in all directions. The position up and down activates the squat or jump, and move toward the screen and back is accomplished by pressing the joystick diagonally. Right pad is responsible for the attacks and block. Total keys to the right can be up to six. Four of them are mandatory.

Red G - a unit. A Yellow - a wide impact on the horizontal. In Green - strong vertical stroke. Blue K - a quick blow down. Two other keys are optional and can be configured in the menu. They can "hang" press two keys simultaneously, which is also somehow reflected in the actions of the character. For example, simultaneously pressing A and B begins a complex series of attacks unique to each character. I advise you to always hang a combination of a single button. By default, the optional key activates the "soul force" - the movement, temporarily modifying the damage done by our attacks, but leaves us completely helpless.

Management will have to get used to only if you've never played on consoles, or are not familiar with the games of the series Soul Calibur. All screen buttons can be moved at its own discretion, and because when you play on the iPad I strongly advise to move the right stick closer to the edges of the screen, and all the left button, simply access to each other. This saves a lot of nerves in heavy battles with the final plot boss.

Graphics have improved a bit, adding texture to the game relatively high resolution. Owners of iPhone 4S and iPad 2 will enjoy the game in full 60 frames per second, and it is - a huge gap in perception of what is happening on the screen. Completely different level of enjoyment. However, we can not say that on other devices in the Soul Calibur play impossible. Just where the restriction on the frames trimmed in half. Load levels occur immediately. There are no visual artifacts and bugs within two weeks of testing have been reported.

As the game from the last century (1999), Soul Calibur looks very cool on iOS sample of 2012. But all the positive aspects of sensitive spoil two negative things. First, the game disappeared Mission Mode - a unique and incredibly fun mode tasks under specific conditions, which once was the primary cause of the popularity of this fighting game.

For those who do not know what was going on, the absence of a regime they may seem weak minus. But the price of the application dramatically raises the question squarely. In 2001 this game for the Dreamcast, even though in the trendy "pirate edishn" worth less than today. $ 15 - a lot, even for such a legendary fighting game. Make sure not sales and do not miss the moment when the SC will sell three times cheaper. Then the chances there will be little disappointed.
