The new Xbox (Durango) is not an optical drive

New generation Xbox console from Microsoft, which bears currently code-named Durango will be available in 2013. According to the latest information received from Microsoft has learned that the new console, completely abandon the optical drive.

If so, then we can expect a new round of the evolution of console-game distribution. Microsoft already has a strong base of digital content - Xbox Live, - a rejection of the optical media will only strengthen the development of the digital market.

Nobody is saying that Microsoft is completely abandon physical media media content. Perhaps the company will use a removable hard drives based on flash chips NAND. Last active development for several years. Who knows, maybe we go back to the cartridges? By the way some of the console are still using these carriers.
