Cheetah robot set a speed record for walking machines

Modern robots are widely used defense structures and law enforcement. The most common stand-alone machines are used in situations where human presence is associated with a potential threat to his health or life. In this regard, the U.S. Defence Agency is constantly working to improve the car and improve their overall effectiveness. One of the latest achievements of the robot is the Cheetah.

Cheetah was created by Boston Dynamics as part of DARPA M3 (Maximum Mobility and Manipulation - maximum mobility and manipulation). The project includes work on four main areas: development of new tools to improve production methods and processes, improvement in the management of mobility and manipulation, as well as a demonstration prototype. In the video we see how a robot named Cheetah gallops at a speed of 28.8 km / h, thus establishing land speed record for walking robots. The previous record was set as many as in 1989, when the robot was overclocked to a speed of 21 km / h

Given the fact that the word «cheetah» translated to English means "cheetah", where it can be concluded that this biologically inspired machine. Cheetah is designed in such a way that it follows the movement of this cheetah in the wild, force push the limbs increases due to the fact that the robot bends and arches his back at every jump. At the moment we are dealing with one of the early prototypes, which moves through the supply to the hydraulic pump, and it jumps exclusively on a treadmill. Later this year, tests will be held fully autonomous version of the field.
