The robot, writing portraits

Even the most serious and advanced technical system, sooner or later become somewhat creative, this also applies to robots. This was proved in his new development, scientists of the Institute Fraunhofer, they built a robot that knows how to draw portraits of people. Moreover, the machine makes a high, almost photographic accuracy.

The principle of operation of the system is relatively simple, with the camera shooting machine produces the required object, then the finiteness of the automated robot repeats the image with a regular pencil. A special algorithm to detect lines in the file image contrast and puts them on paper. The main difficulty developers consider the setting of the algorithm, it must be sensitive enough to transmit the natural wrinkles, and quite intelligent, so that the machine is not fond of the other sites, and the portrait was obtained plausible.


Authors of the project stressed that made the machine work should look like the work of this artist. The system in a fully autonomous mode determines which image details to be transferred to paper, and what can be ignored. The official debut of the robot-portrait of the Fraunhofer Institute will be held at CeBIT 2012 in Hanover, which starts in early March.
